Oral Narrative of Haj Hossein Yekta’s Trip to Lebanon – Part One

We turned the car and headed to an old school. The screams and shouts of the children even in old schools carry a sense of freshness. One had just lost his father as a martyr, another had just seen their home destroyed, and another had just wiped away his tears. I hugged him, and our companion narrated the story of the schoolchildren to me. Children, some of whom had not yet learned the alphabet, were already being tested. War makes children grow up fast; like Zahra, who is sitting on my lap, and her parents and two sisters have been martyred. Like that innocent child who sleeps beneath the soil, leaving her dolls without a playmate. This dirty game that the enemy has started—its loser is already clear, and the loser is the one who disrupts the children’s play; because God does not take the children’s play lightly.
